This Workshop provides space for clinicians to shift their mindset around "problematic clients" and offers innovative, modern approaches to the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. We will focus exclusively on learning how integrate homework into sessions, as well as to time to practice emotion-focused technique and other practical, concrete interventions that target client window of change. There will be a brief review and expansion of concepts discussed in Part One.
Course Description:
Our bodies are not machines. There are real biological, scientific reasons our clients struggle to utilize the skills and practices we teach them, especially in the time of COVID. This Workshop provides space for clinicians to shift their mindset around "problematic clients" and offers innovative, modern approaches to collaborating with our clients and challenging their unhelpful thinking (and ours) that get in the way of making meaningful change. Structured as a teaching group, this Workshop encourages interactive participant involvement for changing patterns and integrating new skills with our clients (and ourselves).
Teaching Methods:
· Geared toward adult learners.
· Combination of methods - didactic lecture, Power Point and group interaction (i.e. role-play and in vivo practice).
Learning Objectives:
· Participants will learn creative, concrete, emotion-focused, homework assignments that elicit client window of change.
· Participants will enhance their skills set toward challenging clients when they are stuck & unable to make changes.
Ellen Blaufox, LCSW-R is a licensed, clinical, social worker with more than 25 years of experience and expertise working with children, adolescents, adults and families who live with chronic stress, mental illness, and are survivors of trauma. Currently in private practice, Ms. Blaufox was Clinical Director of the Mann and Goldsmith Residential Psychiatric Treatment Facilities at the Jewish Board, for more than ten years. During her time at the Jewish Board, Ellen had the opportunity to participate as a Core Team Member in the National Child Traumatic Study Network Learning Collaborative with the founders of Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is an experienced TF-CBT practitioner, supervisor and consultant. Additionally, Ellen was a Core Team Member of the implementation of the Sanctuary Model on the Westchester Campus of the Jewish Board where she led multi-disciplinary teams in the adaptation and implementation of the Sanctuary.
