This workshop provides vital information to ensure that intake workers are able to assess for trauma with confidence
Course Description:
In Assessing Trauma Part One, we discussed how avoidance, the primary symptom of trauma can make it difficult to assess and determine an appropriate diagnosis and treatment for clients. In addition, clinicians are often apprehensive about asking questions about trauma for fear of “re-traumatizing” clients. As such, crucial time goes by before clients receive the appropriate treatment & relief for they symptoms. This workshop will provide mental health workers with the information and tools they need to understand how trauma presents and best practice methods for exploring pertinent history in a manner that will not overwhelm nor do harm to clients.
In addition, we will discuss and practice such clinical Assessment and Screening Tools as the ACES Assessment and the UCLA RI. We will also spend time practicing how to administer, address questions and concerns and how to relay the results to clients.
Teaching Methods:
• This course is geared toward adult learners.
• It will be taught with a combination of methods. Didactic lecture and the use of Power Point, video and other media.
• Interactive activities such as role-play, and in vivo practice allow participants to practice the interventions, skills and techniques taught in the workshop.
• Discussion of specific case examples to highlight use of interventions will occur throughout.
